Artist Statement
As an artist, I started taking pictures because I wanted to capture the little things in life in a way that's pleasing to the eye. I always had a special interest for taking pictures, and had heard the photography class at the high school was amazing, so I joined as soon as a could. I thought I would learn how to use my camera better but by the end of my first classes, my perspective had totally changed. My teacher opened up my eyes and totally changed the way I thought. He taught me to take a step out of my comfort zone and to try new things because you might miss out on something truly great if you don't push yourself. He believed in me and noticed my sense for detail which kept me going through my classes. Now, I am testing out my creativity and trying to find new ways to make intriguing images. I really enjoy capturing true beauty in life by taking portraits of people and landscapes of nature.
This picture is one I am very proud of. It is not the best image or super spectacular, but I am the most proud of it. I packed my camera and tripod with my 3 day pack and hiked 11.4 miles up 1,800 ft of elevation and woke up bright and early to take this picture. It was an amazing experience and I'm glad I got to document it, even though my 16 GB memory card filled up with only 150 pictures on the first day.
I want to continue creating images that can't reflect how amazing this world truly is. I hope to improve my skills and better illustrate my thoughts an ideas. In 10 years I can see myself traveling around to distant places and photographing many different cultures, because I want to kill two birds with one stone. I would be traveling experiencing so many new things and creating art at the same time.
